Descrizione della location
Taken from the summit of Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park, this composition looks out over the dramatic basalt sweep of Salisbury Crags towards the city with their dramatic ridge tracing a hard line across the frame. Arthur’s Seat is a classic high vantage point over the city. Reaching the summit involves a fairly arduous ascent of around 45mins to 1 hour. The hill is popular and the main routes get busy, but there is plenty of space at the top to take your shot without feeling rushed or that you are in someone else’s way.
Note di scatto
This shot is taken after sunset when the light in the night sky still glows and artificial lighting begins to take over and illuminate the city. Longer exposures and a tripod are handy to help strike a comfortable balance. This shot is a 6.5 second exposure. Use a longer lens to bring the city’s buildings, such as the castle, into the composition and give it presence. WARNING: Exposed and rugged cliff top ground. Keep well back from edges and watch your footing on the worn paths. If you are shooting after sunset you must bear in mind that the descent will be dark, and the uneven ground is hard to navigate. Torches or headlamps are essential as there is no lighting along the path.
