Description du lieu
The Queensferry Crossing is a modern three-tower road bridge completed in 2017 to replace the earlier Forth Road Bridge. Its slender white pylons and fanned cables look like sails with the older bridges in the distance. Shooting from the west of this bridge is the best way to get an unobstructed view of it, though the shore is relatively inaccessible. Getting to a suitable viewpoint takes around fifteen minutes on foot from Society Road, and involves reaching an uneven coastline. The latter part of the road doesn’t have a pavement, so caution is required, and if you don’t feel confident, then don’t go.
Notes de prise de vue
This viewpoint works every afternoon through to blue hour as the light is evenly cast from the east for the remainder of the day. The floodlights that illuminate each of the towers at night are very bright, so if shooting at sunset through to blue hour then watch your highlights as you can easily overlook them while exposing for the scene. A long exposure helps smooth the foreground and draw the eye to the bridge. The shoreline is not exactly straight forward to reach and requires care and caution. There is a beach area that is easier to work from before the rocks, although the composition is slightly restricted.
