Description du lieu

This is a unique view looking straight down the barrel of The Forth Bridge (also referred to as The Forth Rail Bridge) from Dalmeny Station. The composition is wonderfully deceiving because it would appear to be a shot where you need to endanger yourself or others to capture the frame, but that is most certainly not the case. There is a fortunate curve in the rail tracks just after the train station at Dalmeny, and if you walk to the end of the platform - within the pedestrian area - then you get a perfect view down the centre of this amazing structure.

Notes de prise de vue

Early morning light rakes across the bridges’ cantilevers which appear as one tall triangular structure in this compressed frame. Warm light gives depth but this composition works in any conditions. A 400mm lens is required to crop out signals and trees that will enter a wider frame. Atmospheric distortion over a long distance is a slight issue. Waiting for a train to enter the frame can work well. A fast shutter speed keeps everything sharp over such a long distance if hand holding the camera.
