Holyrood Palace

The Palace of Holyroodhouse has served as the official Scottish residence of the monarch since the 16th century. The Palace’s distinctive twin-turreted towers and sandstone façade are captured here from the forecourt. Entry tickets give access to the Palace and grounds. The Palace is not open to the public when the monarch is in residence. Limited viewpoints are available from outside the gates.

The palace façade faces roughly west, so afternoon light illuminates the stonework. A super-wide lens will capture the full width of the building including both flanking wings. All seasons work well, though be aware the palace is generally very busy and crowds will gather and linger about near the entrance, which will affect your shot.
