Location description
A tunnel of elegant trees line the path into Inverleith Park. Located just near the south entrance to the park from East Fettes Avenue this boulevard of trees follows a simple sealed path that curves gently to the distant right. In late spring the canopy is at its freshest, the new foliage almost luminous. This is an easy, mostly flat, popular city park location a short walk from the Stockbridge area. Parking is easily found nearby if required.
Shooting notes
Spring is the season to shoot here, when the trees wear vivid new green and are a little more translucent, creating a verdant dome of warm light. Later in the season the leaves become thicker and shield some of the glow so you won’t get the same result. A portrait shot accentuates the height of the trees. The park is busy throughout the day, so you’ll need to wait for a break in foot traffic to take an empty frame, though people will help give the trees scale if you prefer. Late evening works best for this shot when the light is lower in the sky, a little warmer, and casts long shadows that break up the flat area of the path.
